For years we observed the dry, boring science fair projects (some of which
we
just know were done by the parents) and longed for something fun and
outrageous--so it could be a family thing that the kids would never ever
forget! Last year it was a jet powered skateboard but how many hoover
motors
does any one family have lying around? But my son learned how and
engine
works and was the envy of every boy in his school! It didn't do well
in the
judging, but everyone waited in line for a ride on his project!!!
He had a
blast!!!
This year, my husband got on several spud gun websites and laughed until
he
cried!! We knew this was going to be a winner! (in the best
sense of the
word). Father and son were jazzed and for a long time I had a hard
time
telling them apart. A teacher asked if the spud "propeller" shot
flames and
my son said, "Oh, no mam!" That evening they were so delighted to
discover
that "yes it did!!!!!!!" In the interest of truth in advertising
he went
back to the teacher and told her that, "yes, it does shoot blue flames".
She
thanked him for his honesty, but we never knew whether she thought this
was a
good thing or not! We can't wait for a nice warm day to share
the
politically incorrect spud gun with his class. We are sad for all
the dads
who miss the opportunity to have a great time with their kids doing real
science--science they'll tell their kids and grandkids about!!! We
about gag
when we see all the projects documenting scientific comparisons of paper
towels! AGGGGGH! Spuds guns are so cool even if they don't
win first
prize!!!
Thanks!!!
